Adalia Bahiyyih Ellis was born in Hartsville, SC and grew up in the Florence-Darlington area. She is a member of the Baha’i Faith, an independent world wide religion whose pivotal message is unity. Her belief is based on the oneness of God, oneness of His religions, and the oneness of all people is the inspiration that led her to become an avid promoter of the beauty of Latin dancing.
Ms. Ellis began dancing as a child, creating dances in her parents’ living room. As an adolescent she attended Maxwell International Baha’i School where she became a principal member of the Maxwell Baha’i Youth Workshop.
Her involvement with this performing arts group allowed her to be trained by professional dancers and to travel extensively and to tour. After high school, Ms. Ellis joined the Diversity Dance Workshop in Seattle, Washington where she continued to perform for nearly a year.
While attending Coastal Carolina University she became the creator and choreographer for a children and youth performing arts group called Youth Out Loud. It was during this time that through a close friend she became exposed to Latin dancing. After graduating from Coastal with a BA in History and a minor in Theater, she found herself in South Korea.
While in South Korea she became an avid dancer in the Seoul salsa scene and decided to get certified as an instructor with the prestigious Salsa In Academy under the direction of Son, Na-Ri. Her training has proven to be invaluable to her and to her students.
Ms. Ellis has traveled extensively throughout her life falling in love with the cultures and dances native to these countries: Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Botswana, Australia, China, Taiwan, Japan, and Vietnam.
Ms. Ellis is now back home where she has completed a Masters in Teaching while starting Salsa Queen Productions, a company dedicated to the promotion of Latin dance. In one short year she has organized two conferences, hosted dance parties, created choreography for an award winning competition ensemble, and has been teaching classes.
Her love for teaching and dancing comes from her spirit, making her an excellent instructor and dancer.
